Dunavatul de Jos village belongs to Murighiol commune and is an old fishing village. It has the advantage of being directly connected by road to the municipality of Tulcea.
It is located in the contact area of the Dobrogean horst with the deltaic depression of Dranov Island, in the northeastern part of Tulcea county, being a component locality of Murighiol commune.

The settlement dates back to ancient times, its name having its origin in the Slavic name - Dunaveţ (Little Danube) - of the link between the Sf.Gheorghe arm of the Danube and the Razim - Sinoe lagoon complex.

The connections on land, as well as on water, with the neighboring localities, including the municipality of Tulcea, as well as the permanence of historical, cultural and traditional traces intertwined with the origins of the local community, - the Ukrainian ethnicity being the predominant one, - generate in the students of the school a continuous state of mind towards openness , search and understanding of the particularities of the community environment.
